Political Censorship of Palestine in Academic Medical Journals-Webinar March 19, 2022

Please join us and invite colleagues and friends, this will be an important conversion....

In March 2020, a group of doctors and public health experts authored a 405-word correspondence in The Lancet medical journal, examining structural violence against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip and warning of uncontrolled spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the region. This fear has since become reality—but the piece has disappeared from The Lancet's website.

This disappearance is just one instance of censorship and suppression of medical information about Palestine. Will you join the next JVP Health Advisory Council webinar for a lively conversation between Drs. Mads Gilbert, David Mills, Bram Wispelwey, and PhD researcher Rania Muhareb, the authors of this censored article, about their personal experiences with suppression at The Lancet?

Presenters will talk about this specific instance of academic censorship, highlight what has happened since and where things stand now, and speak to how academic medical journals censor Palestinian health and present realities on the ground. Most importantly, they will discuss what can be done to resist academic repression and settler colonial censorship.

Join the Health Advisory Council on Saturday, March 19, 2022 10AM-11AM PT 1PM-2PM ET. We hope to see you there.

Thank you,
Alice Rothchild, MD
